Fredericton

The Ganong Chocolate Museum and Store is in St. Stephen, not far from Oak Bay. The original plan was to hit it on our way to Oak Bay, but that day was Labor Day, so they were closed. We checked to see if it would be open on Tuesday, and they were. But when we got there for a tour, there was a big busload of students unloading. We were informed that the morning tour was full. We bought a few items in the store and headed back to the Nobles' house.

At that point, Vicki, Rick, and I headed to Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick, about an hour and a half from Oak Bay. Fredericton was a delightful town of about 70,000. We walked the converted railway bridge over the St. John river to a lunch spot called Picaroons.

After lunch, we meandered back through town, stopping at a bakery, and headed back to Oak Bay.

Often before dinner, we catch the local news. Tuesday led with back to school day - not murder and mayhem, nor Trump - although he came up soon thereafter.

Our evenings after dinner have often involved either the US Open or the Toronto Blue Jays baseball games. The Nobles follow the Blue Jays closely. Watching this and watching the sun set on their front porch is a very pleasant way to end the day.

On Thursday, we hit the road. Our first stop was at 9:15am at McKay's, a roadside store selling fresh wild bluberries, blueberry jams and jellies, whipped honey, blueberry muffins and FRESH BLUEBERRY PIE, as well as homemade blueberry ice cream. I had a second breakfast of a big piece of pie with blueberry ice cream. Wait, that was my third breakfast because when we pulled in, an older lady in another car waved me over. She gave us a warm blueberry muffin. She had six but couldn't eat them all. So of course we helped her out! We left with an armful of goodies. I'd drive back tonight for another piece of that pie.

Our next stop was supposed to be Cape Enrage, where there is a lighthouse on the Bay of Fundy. We made it, but the lighthouse grounds were closed and we couldn't visit. We left and I finally got to see a porcupine wandering around!

On to Hopewell Rocks, which was pretty cool. They have the highest tide changes in the world. We got there during low tide and walked on the uncovered ocean floor, looking at the amazing rock formations which people kayak around at high tide.

Afterwards, we drove on to our next lodging, the Chateau Moncton in - you guessed it - Moncton, NB. We had a great italian dinner at Gusto's, but it was possibly the loudest restaurant I have ever been in.

That's it. Another day, another kilometer.
